Support to the Higher Education sector by the Frederick Soddy Trust:
  • Grants for major projects (normally fieldwork) appropriate to the Trust by a group of two or more.
  • The single 6,000 grant for postgraduate fieldwork research into the study of the human geography: social, economic and cultural life of a region administered with the Royal Geographical Society (IBG) http://www.rgs.org/OurWork/Grants/Postgraduate+grants/Frederick+Soddy+Award.htm
  • Grants to University Expeditions studying the whole life (including human geography: the social and or economic aspects) of an area have received the Trust's support.   See Expeditions page.

    The Single Annual Postgraduate Fieldwork grant
    The Frederick Soddy Trust has arranged through the Royal Geographical Society (IBG) an award of up to a total of 6,000 a year.  It is emphasised that applications must illustrate a total relevance to the Trust's object - the whole life (including human geography: the social and or economic aspects) of an area.

    This single annual award is administered by the Royal Geographical Society and may be applied for by postgraduates either individually or working as a group.  Eligibility and the application process can be found at  http://www.rgs.org/OurWork/Grants/Postgraduate+grants/Frederick+Soddy+Award.htm

      The winner of the 2010 6,000 post graduate research award through the RGS was Evlyn Landerer of the SPRI, University of Cambridge who sent this picture from the field during her year living with the Reindeer People (Evenki) of  the isolated sub-Arctic Irkutksaya Oblast of Eastern Siberia in  the forests.
